Postby dave3cu » Wed Aug 08, 2007 4:25 pm

Just curioius.......

Asus P5L VM1394 800Mhz FSB (No Sli)
PentD-925@3.0Ghz
2048Mb DDR2-SDRAM-PC5300
Geforce 7600GT 256Mb GDDR3 PCI-E @650/800(1600)
No OC's

Based on these specs, what would be the best/fastest

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

i have a very similar system to yours

P5LD2-SE mobo
2GB DDR2 DualChannel RAM
Nvidia Geforce 6800XT
Intel DualCore 3.4ghz
also no OC's

and i'm upgrading to the Geforce 8800 GTX this week... i had to buy a new 750W PSU for that, but i believe my system will hold up ok on today's games at least

since you're not going for DX10, i would suggest one of Nvidia's Geforce series 7 (7950 would be a nice chioce) for they're the highest end GPU's made for only DX9

now if you do want to get a DX10 card, go for the Geforce 8 series, but be warned, they're really not cheap

hope this helps

Cheers

based on your specs its either a 7950 512, an 8600GTS 320 or for 70 bucks more a 8800GTX 640... see my posts about those cards in this http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1186766382

the Pentium D is going to be a bottleneck with the 8800GTS but it will work

make sure the PSU is right. Just because one is labeled a 650watt unit does not mean it will deliver that. I have seen 700watt advertised units deliver no more than 550
