Last night I switched off the computer as normal, didn

having a few problems with OODAG.EXE too (O&O Defrag.)

Have you tried system restore?

I think Jim doesn't have System Restore :-/

But have you tried shutting down the service in your startup sequence, so that it won't cause you any problems during boot?
I've seen similar problems like this one on my own machine and doing the above always solved it.

After I could can use the machine again I Googled the error message and found a solution for it in 99% of the issues.

See if that works ... if not let me know. We'll try something else.

Hi Harold, unfortunately no it didn't work... Ive even tried to start a basic startup.. but the oodag.exe and the "AntiVirus is out of date" message appears, along with a time set at 11.30 in the year 9999..WOW! so overall... im lost..........

Perhaps uninstall the affected software and see if you still get probs, then re-install the software if you still want it. Remnants (old files, folders and settings) from the previous install may complicate matters of course.

Exactly my idea ... and also make sure to run CCleaner and Registry Mechanic after that.

Nope.. Still get the error messages. And wont correct the time, wont allow me to access secure sites, and finally, it displays "End now" messages all the time. I cant think it could be a virus because there is nothing suspicous in my PROCESSES, and im using NOD32 & SPysweeper.

I think the only option is for a CLEAN, Restart and Fresh Install.

I have a Few questions though;

1. IF I'm going to install new BIOS UPGRADE, do i do this with the computer currently partioned? or shall i remove everything and wipe everything off before i update the bios?
2. Ive done some slight overclocking to the BIOS, will reformatting the PC remove these settings and will a BIOS upgrade do this aswell.
3. IF i DONT install a new BIOS update, and REFORMAT, will i have to reinstall the BIOS and OC settings, or will they stay independant and the SAME?

This is the order i plan on doing it in. CMOS Clear, BIOS UPDATE, ANY BIOS CHANGES/OVERCLOCKING

AND just to add, there is a BETA BIOS version out, is it OK to use this, or shall i stick to the trusted one. Im the "better to be safe than sorry" kinda guy!

Check the internal battery on the computer.  It's used to maintain the system time when the computer is not powered up.  They do wear down after awhile.  This may not be it but it is a simple fix that should be tried.

You should install a beta bios if you understand why, otherwise I'd stick

It sounds like a new system battery is the way to go. BUT, if that doesn't work, you might try removing and replacing your computers' memory. (don't go out and buy new memory, just pull the old ones out and put them back in.) I've seen cases where a person will move or even lightly bump their machine, and it was enough to affect the "seating" of the memory. Improperly seated memory can cause all sorts of problems too. How old a machine are we talking about?

Iv'e decided to re-install everything including reformat windows to get my system restored and re-freshed. I will need a bit of time to do this, but hopefully the cause will be good enough to do it.

This is how i plan to do it, I plan to RESET the CMOS, LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS and start from scratch with the bios, BUT NOT to overclock it there and then. ONCE ive reset the CMOS and loaded defaults, i'm going to completely reformat WINDOWS XP on a single partion. When that has installed and finished, i'm going to install my motherboard latest drivers (because i need the ethernet driver), and then just install all the updates, all of them rebooting in between. Then once fully installed, i'm going to install the Graphics, Sound and any other drivers, followed by Anti-Virus, Spyware etc. Then once that is all set up i will configure windows correctly.
Then once everything windows based is complete, its time to re-install and restart FS9.. That is gonna be a REAL time killer that is!

Hows that process sound? Good enough?

The battery did not get the time to remain correct? What about in the BIOS, when you change the time in the BIOS and shut down, start back up, does it remain correct or does it reset time and date?

If it is not keeping the time and date right then either the battery you replaced is defective, not installed correctly or the motherboard has some how become defective because if you set the time in the BIOS to the right value and it does not remain correct after a shut down and restart, (power completely off, not just reboot) there is hardware trouble or a dead battery. Windows takes the time directly from the BIOS until it sync's up with the time server on the internet. If its right in the BIOS and remains correct but its wrong in Windows, I would check the time server settings and make sure some type of malware or bug has not changed the time server on you.

Bring up the clock in Windows, go to the internet time tab and check to see if it is set to time.windows.com

if not, use the drop-down, set it to time.windows.com and hit UPDATE NOW

If it scews up again, something is not right
