Before, if I shut down my PC by slight push on its s/w the start up was via black screen doing all sorts of checks before starting windows.

Resently though if I s/w off my PC this way it shuts down OK & when I start it, it starts to windows normally.

In the CTRL Panel Power Options show, advance set to "shut down" & hybernate is ticked.

Is this behaviour normal?

thanx       luke

if you dont use hybernate, uncheck it and make sure the option for 'when I press the power button" is set to 'shut down'

Other than that, make sure there are not wierd power managemt features enable in the bios

If you are getting a lot of disk activity at shutdown, its eith the memory is low because you used it up in a game like FSX or some program it writting to the disk at shutdown

thanx,
if you shut down your PC with its  switch, what happens when you start it up?

Is it a normal startup or does it go in a black screen checking up the partitions before it starts in windows?                          luke
