Help-Changed graphics card and lost the taskbar!!

Can anyone help? My son has a Dell 3100 (which doesn't come with a graphics card) so we have put a Radeon 9250 PCI card, as the Dell only has PCI slots. We've installed the drivers from the CD accompanying the card, and the PC now has the ATI Catalyst control centre.

The problem is that although the desktop looks OK at 1280x960 pixels (as it did before), and whereas the wallpaper and icons look much as they did before, the start button and taskbar have disappeared! Also, the mouse can now disappear off to the right and below the screen as if there's more screen, but we can't see it. (It didn't do this with the machine's original graphics.) So the taskbar may be there, but it might be 'below' the screen. One thing that makes me think this is that one of my son's games, a Star Wars RPG has a 800x600 opening screen (like FlightSim) but instead of being in the centre of the screen, it's displaced to right (almost half off the right edge of the screen) and slightly down. (Thinking about it, the wallpaper and icons are probably ok because they'd be ,apped from the top left of the screen?

It's almost as if the graphics card is trying to fit the image to a much larger resolution screen. Is there a setting in the Catalyst settings (or anywhere else) that I should adjust? Can anyone help?

Many thanks.
:)

Sounds like your monitor's the problem. Go onto the on-screen-display on the monitor (little menu button on most monitors), and there should be options to resize, move, and adjust the trapezium etc of the monitor. Make the picture a bit smaller, center it, then move it up to normal size again.

Do what Akula_dude said or go to the Catalyst Control Center and look there under: Monitor Properties -> Adjustments. When you do that some buttons show up on the right that let you change the size and position of the image on the monitor.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys - it was easier to fix than that! I, er, removed the card, made sure I'd removed the dust and debris from the PCI slit, put the card back in and made sure it was firmly seated - et voila! Problem solved.
