i have:
1- broken Xbox steering wheel
1- set of pedals that are used with it

the quest:
get the pedals to go into my computer and work as rudder pedals on FS9 (FS2004)

the info:
EV8 Racing (PlayOn) steering wheel and pedals
the connection from the pedals to the wheel looks like Image

so, i am running Win Vista Home Premium on a Packard Bell iMedia tower PC

what will i need to make this project work (if atall)

cheers

Tear the thing apart and make a usb connection out of it, if thats ever so possible (Dunno I've never tried it, people make their own gear all the time though) Or you could if its still under waranty... get a new one and use it for what its meant to be used for

hehe, i just sold the xbox about 4 days ago (the wheel didnt work so the pedals are useless without)

it was an old present so warranty is gone

about the USB... this isnt a regular xbox connection i dont think, those are more like rounded USBs that are fat. i could try to make it USB if the pedals are digital and not analogue and i know how

oh, the xbox lead to the controller has that 'break off' bit so you dont yank the console along the ground... and it doesnt go with the steering wheel's connector

Is that a XBOX 360 controller? If so you can grab the USB connector on eBAY for like $15

nope, old xbox im afraid. someone sent me the link to a xbox->usb connector, but it wont work as the connections are different. if anyone knows the name of this connection then maybe i could get an adapter for it?

It's probably a special connector to the wheel only, my PC's momo has pedals that have a special 9 pin serial port style connector on it that hooks into the wheel. You may be out of luck, I am not sure though.

yeh, i imagine they are a bit specialised. the connectors are probably just 2 for each pedal to show the amount the pedal is pressed and the other 2 are for something else.

so, more importantly... could it go into a USB do you think? i was thinking about stripping down the steering wheel to get the key componants then running it from pedals->steering wheel board->connector->USB but i think all that is fried because it doesnt work

My advice would be to forget all about pedals...

I tried it many years ago, and soon got fed up with struggling up hills... :'(...!

Get yourself a nice Motor-Bike, (or even one of those naff Scooter thingies!), just sit on it and let the engine do the work... 8-)...!

Pedaling only gets you out of breath, and shortens your life...

(And sitting on that hard, narrow seat for hours on end, will ruin your sex life.... :-[...)...

...trust me... ;)...!

Paul....Meep..Meep.... 8-)... ;D....!

wise words as always Fozzer... too bad i dont have a bike though... only a rubbishy skateboard and my parents' cars

the connection (as i have just found) is a 4-pin S-Video connection. apparently you can plug MIDI joystick connections into sound or video cards as run them like that

if i plugged the connection into the available slot, would it work? or would i be looking at my monitor's output on my feet?
