Hi

I am thinking of updating my video card. Am not sure if physical dimension of card or my system is suitable for such an upgrade. Will upgrade to vista when SP1 is released. All drivers/bios are current.

My computer is used for flight simulation (MSFX+ Fs9) and general computer usage. Currently running FSX(SP1) + Active Sky X+ XGraffics + LDS767-300X +Radar Contact + Voz1.4 (naturally). Only payware aircraft to be added when released will be Aeroworx B200 and Dreamfleet b58.

Any any advice/assistance would be appreciated.

Pull out a tape measure and measure, the 8800GTS is 9 inches long, and takes two slots, one PCI-E and one PCI slot. If you have 9 inches of length from the back to the front it should fit, and your specs should support one without too much of a bottleneck as far as I know.

EDIT: Upon reviewing your case (18.6 inches long) you should be able to fit it with plenty of room, however the drive bays may be in the way, but I am fairly sure it will fit without a problem, however a good measuring before you buy is always a good thing!

Thanks Gunny for your response. Looks like I have approx 11inches from front to back.
Looks like a $ outlay is about to happen.

Thanks again.

WOWZERS... :o...!

The Ladies will be pleased... [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]...!

Take care with the power supply requirements for the 8800 GTS...

My 550 Watt PSU exploded just trying to cope with my previous 6600 GT O/C...
(700 Watt PSU at present with my 78000GS AGP card...fingers crossed)... ::)...!

Paul...11 inches!...WOW!...The mind boggles!... :o...!

Hope that doesn't happen to my X850XTPE (About as fast as your new card but uses 20% more power) on my 350watt power supply.  ;D

Two years and it's still going strong. I've evern tried overclocking it. :D

More about the Amps and such for a PSU, not total watts! Thats one thing I find people screw up on a lot, Even I did it, cost me a computer too...

Yeah.

A 8800GTS needs 20 amps on the +12V rail, so check new PSUs for that first.

Rofl.

My PSU puts out 18amps on the +12V rail. Pretty good for a PSU marketted as a 350watter. :P
