Annoying Vista hard drive issue

My IDE storage hard drive periodically shuts down in vista when its not active, I can search the data on it etc, but when I open something it takes a second and fires it right back up, Where is the blasted setting to leave the drives on all the time? I think there was in XP but since I am new to vista I haven't a clue. I am running Vista Ultimate just so you know.

Gunny (Its annoying listening to my drive power up and down all the time)

Sounds like that energy saver stuff.  Look in the control panel for something to do with energy saver.  I know these features are well intentioned, but most of the features are more pain than they're worth.  They do make sense on a laptop running on batteries, but otherwise, it's a hassle.

I think I found it, Vista has some pretty good power saving modes, Inactive hard drives shut down after 20 minutes, I mean its a nice feature.... But it's probably hard on the drive, At first I thought the drive was fried (recently had a little accident with it) But when I pulled data from it, it fired up. Thanks for the responce!
