Joystick Problems?

I own the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled flight sim. I hooked up my joy stick which hasn't been used for a little bit and went to calibrate it. I noticed that when i press forward the joystick on the calibration screen does not respond as in it the cross hairs don't move. If i gradually push it forward they don't move until the stick is pressed all the way forward. Then it has a sudden jump to the top.
I thought maybe the issue was dust collection overtime of sitting on my desk but I'm not really sure. If that would be the problem would there be a way to clean that out. Could I use the air cans with the straw stick it down in there and try to blow some air out? Is it possible I could unscrew the bottom of it and easily get to it without worrying about messing anything up inside it?
Heck I may just need another just want your response on this. If you don't understand what I am talking about I can make a movie of calibration so you can see what it is doing.

Hmmmm, been there done that. I've gone through 2 Logitech joysticks. The latest is the WingMan Force 3D. In my expierence, the Logitech joysticks just didn't seem to hold up. And I don't abuse my joysticks. I now am using a Saitek joystick. So far so good. It has stiffer resistance than the Logitech, which I like. But I prefer how the Logitech lays out it's controls. Oh well, you can't have everything.
My recommendation to you, buy a different joystick. But do your research first.

Were you calibrating in Windows, logitech utility, or the sim? Logitec sticks are sometimes finicky. Might try to remove all logitech programs and drivers and reinstall. You may want to try a reboot also.

I tried to in game calibration then the software calibration. I tried reinstalling the software that came with it still no luck. Tomorrow when I fire my computer back up I will try it again. See if the problems continue.

Both of my Logitech joysticks failed in the same way. One of the X-Y axis failed. I calibrated until the cows came home and nothing helped. I took my 1st joystick apart and cleaned the connectors. It worked better for a short while. My second joystick would calibrate properly, but when I began flying, it would fail intermittently. I ddin't bother trying to fix that one, I just went out and bought another joystick.

Yeah, I might just go buy another one. I just want to try to save this one before I decide to trash it. It's a perfectly good joystick no since and just throwing it away when it could be easily fixed.

Well just an update on this. After restarting my computer I opened the joystick test page from Control Panel>Game Controllers and it works fine now. Not sure what the deal was there but I'm just glad that it is working!
Just like to say thanks guys for your suggestions and help.

Your Logitech joystick is just
pretending to be working fine...

..!
It is waiting until 6:30 PM on a Saturday afternoon, after all the shops are shut for the week-end, breaking down, and there is no chance of you getting a nice Saitek replacement until the following Monday...

...!
Trust me....

...!
Paul....(With a bin full of broken Logitech WingMan Force 3D joysticks)....

...!
Saitek Cyborg Evo Force.....
