Wanting to upgrade

Here are my present specs:
Microsoft XP Home
Pentium 4  3 ghz (2 CPUs)
2046 ram
DirectX 9.0
Radeon X300/X550 128mb

I would like to upgrade my video but don't have a fortune to throw around.  I have looked at both the ATI X1950 Pro and the NVidia 7950GT but they're a bit more money than I want to spend.  Also I read in one of the threads that if you have a Dell (Mine is a Dimension 8400) the power supply would have to be upgraded.  Is there a tradeoff that will give me good frame rates without making me go to the extra expense of a new PS?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

As your current card has only 4 pixel pipelines any card with 8 or 12 pipelines should yield a significant improvement.

This is great!  Thanks  ;D

One question tho......how do I know whether it has a 4 pin Molex power lead or not?  I looked at the 7600GT you have in your recommendation and I can't see where it says one way or the other.  Obviously I'm not a techie!!

The 7600GT doesn't need a 6 pin molex to run. For your system a 7900GS would be aboslutely the best choice.

You folks always come through.  Thanks for responding.  I'm gonna do a search and read up on "molex" cause I don't have a clue what it is.  :o
Both of you have been a tremendous help.
