Semifinal Specs / Graphics Card

Purchase is imminent.  After much consideration and toil, here is my revised PC configuration:

I will also use a Thermaltake Purepower 600w simply because I already have it, and my old system will not need it.  Am also getting three additional optical drives, keyboard and mouse.

I am still pondering my choice for graphics.  I had been considering the X1950 and the G8800, but I have all but ruled out the former.  Surprisingly, despite all my anxieties, I turned out to be underbudget. :D This opens up a bigger question: should I wait for the release of the R600?  By various accounts, it is being released... well... today, actually, but it will actually be available May 14.  What are your thoughts on the R600 vs the G8800?  More specifically, the XT vs the GTS?  Is it worth getting?  Even if not, is it likely DAAMIT will force NVidia to lower prices on the 8800 within the immediate future? (ex: 1 month away, not a year/half a year away)

PS: Comments on MoBo choice especially welcome. :-*

Good PC.

Anyway, about the GPU, I would wait two weeks to see how the R600 pans out.

I'd go for an Asus P5B or P5W than for a GA-965.

I rest my case

and that was with the card running stock. It will easly clock 1000 on the core and at least 2100 on the memory with air (higher but I'm not squealing yet)

If you do any audio/video editing work.. that quad core will have you rolling in smiles. With the right memory you can hit 4gig easy and without water cooling..

The Zalman 9700 is your best friend for a HSF

One of those is SOOOOO gonna be mine! With a quad core K10..... :D

Hmmmm, Christmas a good time to get one>? I also see a 1.9ghz one oc'd to over 3ghz. Damn that's pretty good on air; esp considering it is sopposidly faster than Core 2 (clock for clock).

Now this is truly some meaty info.  This, after speaking to a Hitachi employee the other day about disc arrays, should prove to be some mighty beefy ammo.  Image
