100% Traffic Requirements

Hi
I'm getting a new PC shortly and my desires are to fly from Heathrow, JFK, Schipol, etc in FS9 with 100% traffic and relatively high detail settings without the jerkiness I get from my existing setup. What would you say is the prime hardware consideration for this much traffic - CPU, RAM or Graphics Card?

Thanks for your help

Sean

All of the above.

chances are that no such hardware can currently support ur needs (unless ur willing to set all other settings to zilch)...

ud better wait for better CPUs and Graphics cards to come out, and also, ud probably benifit from the SP1 patch which will be coming out fairly soon.

as for other stuff, u can just wait for the real experts...

I think you will find that he is referring to FS9...not FSX!...

The requiremants will not be anywhere as drastic as for the dreaded FSX...!

Paul....FS9 works fine (Maxed) with my Hardware specification listed below.

(Sim V Rules: Mobile 'phone speak not allowed)...;)...!

Edit: I doubt that many Simmers fly with the traffic set at 100%. The constant radio chatter would be unbearable, and the Frame Rate load on the Sim un-acceptable...!!
My traffic is set between 5% and 20% Absolute Max..!

I set traffic to 100% ONCE, after I had downloaded Netherlands 2000 scenery... never again.
At Schipol it took me almost an hour and a half to taxi to the threshold of the runway, I was queued behind at least 25-30 aircraft.. then another 10 mins before being given clearance due to incoming traffic

The best traffic level, assuming one has replaced the traffic in FS9 with a good set, is 85-90%

Any more is really over the top.

Just because it is set to 85% doesn not mean you will not see loads of traffic. It is not just about the slider but the traffic schedule file. If you get a good replacement like Ultimate Traffic, you can also get the most recent airline schedules that will fly all your AI like real world. Like I said, any more than 90% and you are just killing your system for nothing.

FSX + add-on traffic at 100% = no performance problems.

And if there's a traffic jam...well, there's a traffic jam...

I run (Or should I say RAN, since I deleted fs9) Feelthere Legacy + Flysomething-o-rather KPDX + Ultimate traffic 100% = smooth 20fps experiance w/ all other settings maxed out. To do that I would expect a fast processor and a videocard with fast memory. I don't think RAM would be THAT important, 1gb should be fine for fs9; 2gb for fsX.

Well RAM isn't all, but its part of the equation. FS9 uses 700MB to run, and when you load it down with addons all running at the same time, it uses quite a bit more. So having 2GB for FS9 can do quite a bit. And yes FSX does need at least 2GB. You should also have decently fast DUAL core, and a high end Video card. A 7800GT or X1900XT or better should do. The dual core is a bit of an essential, as I get notacably better frames on my PD 805 @4Ghz than I did my P4HT at 3.98Ghz. The reason is that the processor can spread out tasks across two cores.

Cheers
