I need some advice..

I've been looking for a new graphics card lately, and have found two things that (I think) are better than what I have. Keep in mind these are PCI (no I didn't forget the E, it really is that old-as-the-hills regular PCI slot :P). Anyway, what I've found are these:

#1:ATI Radeon X1300

Out of all of those, the X1550 will preform the best. It has the fastest core clock, the most pixel pipelines, and the fastest texture fill rates. I guess you could call it the best of the worst.

For only a few bucks more

This one is about 100 times better than those old pieces of junk ;)
How much do you wish to spend??

That's a PCIe card.

I also am saddled with PCI only, and have only general knowledge of todays hardware. As far as I know your 6200 and the X1xxx's are the best available for the PCI bus.

I can only speak for the x1300... I recently upgraded from a Geforce 5200FX 128mb to the (Diamond) x1300 and

dave3cu, I was in the same boat.  It didn't make any sense for me to dump any more money in my old computer.  Then my mobo went belly-up!  I now have a Gateway with dual core, along with a GeForce PCIe 7600 with 512 MB.  If my expierence is a gague, a blown mobo just might bring results!   :D

....but alas, I'm not sold on Vista, as other posts by me have indicated.

Thanks to ya'll, I'm beginning to see that there isn't that much to be had for PCI. I think I need to just somehow take the plunge, get a new mobo and a decent processor (aka the Pentium D 805), along with a new card that is PCI-E. whether or not I will be able to do that, I don't know. I will probably wait a while, because from what I've gathered, prices are supposed to plummet around June I think, which is exactly what I need ;D.

Anybody have any suggestions for motherboards? I need one that can support at least one PCI-E X16 card, several gigs of RAM, a Pentium D 805 processor, and can overclock a lot, preferably for pretty cheap. ;D

thanks for the info.

cheers,

Take a look at my rig. Just make sure that your motherboard can put out decent voltages (so don't just buy the cheapest one) and get good stable RAM. That processor will run 4.3Ghz stable given the proper cooling.

As far as intel goes, take a look back at core 2. They have taken the first major price drop. The E6600 is now $265, and the E4400 is now $140. The next series of major drops will occure after the EXX50 series come out.
