Older system suggestions...

I just recieved an few-years-old computer, and im attempting to run fs02. Ive cleaned and defrag'd the system, but i keep getting a wierd message while loading the sim.
FIrst off, here's what I know of my "System specs":
HP Pavilion
Authentic MD
AMD-K6(tm)3d processor
IntelMMX(TM) Technology
124MB RAM
Windows 98
------------
System: 84% free
File System: 32 bit
Virtual Memory: 32 bit
Disk COmpression: not installed
PC Cards: Not installed

The message I get when I load fs, "Safe Mode has been enabled. System unable to use hardware acceleration. Performance and quality will be affected."
BOY is it ever, its seemingly like trying to play one of those old atari 7800's. The cockpit and everything looks just fine, but the world outside is a barren desert of squares. The sim moves an apparent one frame per second, or something close. All the settings in the sim are set to "barely anything" if thats an option.
Im hardly a computer person, but I figured someone here can hopefully set me on the right track. I plan to use that computer as just a sim computer. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Nice to see there are still PCs from the stone age around. ;D

Honestly, a K-6 will run anything up to FS2000, but FS 2002? No way...

tennm1980,

That machine would likely be a candidate for running some external gauges like those used for simpit building if you network it to the main flight sim machine and install FSUIPC and WideFS (payware).  Might be of interest to you.

best,

..........john

So, now that I'll probably be shopping ebay for the 2000 release...maybe ya'll can help out in another aspect. Im running Win98, and I recieved this computer from my father, who thinks that the Windows program he has on it is a bit corrupt (dont ask, i dont know :-)  I have a brand new version of Win98 I bought the other day. Is there a way to just erase everything off this computer and start again, before I go and install fs00? Ive searched through the engines online but I cant get any matching information (or information that this pathetic layman can decipher). Ya'll are tons of help.
