Not what I was expecting

Well, I finally got myself an 8800, but I haven't seen much improvement in FPS. I'm almost positive it's the processor. Am I right? And I plan on getting an FX-57 @ 2.8GHz, OC'd probably over 3, soon. How much more will that help?

Just an FYI... the only processor out of the box with no clocking that will work side by side with a 8800GTX and not be bottlenecked in most applications is a E6800 with 800MHz or greater memory. An E6700 can be clocked up to it. An E6300-6600 can get close clocked up with the right motherboard and supporting memory (PC2 800 or greater) but the E6300 will still fall quite short

The next round of AMD processor to be released this summer will to do that too but right now you need the best FX processor to get in the ball-game and it must be clocked up on a modern motherboard and supporting high speed memory.

An FX-57 is not much better than a 5000+, in many ways its slower so I am afraid you will be disspointed with that combination. A 3800+ is not that much faster than a FX-57 in real horsepower although the internals are a bit different and the FX processor will allow for multiplier changes in clocking.

Its not about GHz, its about the processor internal design, bus speed and memory controller.

The 8800 and R600 design soon to be relased were meant for Core2 and the next generation of AMD

That does not mean you are stuck, but you will need to set the system up with restrictions to autogen and other CPU bound areas in FSX

If I weren't limited on money, I'd get a core 2 duo, but I could only spend $300 on the mobo, cpu, and psu when I got them, so that didn't leave me many options. I think I'll save up for a core 2 duo system.

Also, I have an 8800GTS.

How's that for a new comp? And I may be able to knock $100 off if I don't need that power supply.

Even the highest standard pc wont work great with FSX until the patch comes out. Bide your time wont be long now.
