Hey guys,

If you have no access to an access point/wi-fi point/hot-spot or something that connects you to the internet.....How would you access the internet? Whilst on the move (e.g. in a train or something)

Would you use a satellite connection or something ? What are the costs ? What are the limitations? What kind of speed is it ?

I'm not asking because of my laptop or something...I'm just asking because I'm kinda curious about how people can get onto the web like that....?

In the UK Vodafone, and I presume others, have a 3G card which slots into laptops.. astronomical costs for connections.. sort of like a mobile modem.
I believe it's along the lines of GRPS only a bit more advanced.

well in the US, if your computer's WI-FI cannot get a signal, an option is to get a cell card.

i know Sprint and Verizon Wireless have them. it's basically a cell phone for computers. it uses cell towers which are much more prevalent in the world than Wi-fi hotspots. and thus, if your cell phone gets reception, so will your cell card.

now satellite internet is possible, but EXPENSIVE as i'll get out. I konw my company laptops have satellite capability, but its not enabled.
