I have been out of the loop for a while and noticed that there is a new socket type for AMD. I currently run a 939 64 but was going to upgrade soon to be able to run FSX. I know i need to get a dual core but the newest type aren't 939s. The fastest i've seen is a fx 4600 i think. What would be the best choice for my current MB. Obviously I need to upgrade VC but that is not an issue to me. Here are my specs:
MB: ASUS a8n-e 939 NF4
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice core
VC: Lead tek GF PCX6600gt 128
RAM: 1gb Rosewill pc3200 in dual channel
I want to run FSX so that i notice all of the new features and still have acceptable frames.
Thanks in adcance

Thanks Congo. That is good to hear. I will probably contact you for some OC advice but i will definitely have to get better cooling than stock. I have been very happy with my system so if I can get FSX to work fairly well that would be great.

I get 2.75ghz on my stock cooler, but my cpu may be exceptional in that regard, google up images of the Zalman 9500 and see what you think.
I would just start with the overclock on stock cooler, your cpu may not want to go much higher at all, so you don't want to waste money on a cooler if that's the case.
You can go into bios and in advanced settings, go into cpu configuration and set dram frequency to DDR333 (or 166mhz), and HT multiplier to 4x.
Go back to advanced and scroll down to jumperfree configuration and set overclock options to manual.
Set cpu frequency to 250mhz, set cpu multiplier to 9 for 2250 mhz or 10 for 2500ghz cpu speed.
lock PCIe bus to 100mhz

2.8Ghz on stock cooler here. The 3700s were always known for their overclockability

Probably not Rootbeer.
Depends on the mainboard emachines gave you but don't get your hopes up.
By the way, if I knew that information, I'd know more about your system than you or your signature could tell me.

I've only got an AMD64 3500+ with stock cooler on this board.. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/2005/09/16/asrock_939dual/
and word round the campfire is, it's not a good overclocker. :'(
And I actually laughed out loud when I googled that Zalman 9500. ;D Your case must be the size of an aircraft hanger. ;D

LOL!! i got a 9700 to cool a +3200 which had taken its baby steps to overclock. until i get better ram my O/C is limited, but i hear that the 3200 has got some poer behind it. congo you'll have to teach me a trick or too.
and the zalman 9700 isn't THAT big, it clears my mid size wall by 1.2 inches.
