Hi all.
As you can see from my sig, I have a kinda low end PC. I managed to get a P4 HT 3.0Ghz CPU a couple of weeks ago, and thougt "hey, this sould change the perfomance of FS9".... well, it changed it, all right.... it was almost half as slow as it was with the "stock" P4!!!!!

I usually got from 18 to 19 fps with all the sliders to the right, and with that new CPU I was lucky to reach 9fps. What is the problem?? I even updated the BIOS on the motherboard, hoping that it would improve something, but no positive results at all. The manufacturer says that the mobo can handle that processor with no problem at all, it even can handle real dual core CPUs... any ideas? The "performance" display of the task manager shows 2 cores working, the information utility of windows recognizes it as 2 cpus.... what do you think about it?

Any tips would be highly appreciated.

This might be a long shot.... But try reinstalling your operating system with the new CPU installed and see if that helps, I dunno if this will help at all but I keep reading you should format with a CPU upgrade.... Don't take my word for it though as I haven't changed a CPU, I think modern processers also have drivers of some sort.... Look into it and you may find the problem.... Other than that I am as clueless as you are as to why its not working out.

You installed a new CPU without reformatting? Welcome to hardware, since it is your first time here my name is Cameron and I will be taking care of you today.

When installing any new Processer or motherboard you MUST reinstall your operating system. The OS will not correctly recognise your new hardware, and will not run properly.

So after you have reformatted your drive, and reinstalled everything and are still having problems, come back.

I have seen posts that it works for correcting hyperthreading problems too

Those are good suggestions, but his problem is the fact that he replaced his processer, and didnt reformat.

Well, thank God I read this. I was under the impression ( I have a AMD 3500 Skt 939 San Diego ) that as long as I got the correct m/board socket , I could just "flip one out and pop ,say, an X2 4800+ right in."    :o

I was not questioning your suggestion and I have read the same thing about installing Windows when going from a single to a dual core processor. It is also important to go to the manufacture of the motherboard and confirm the BIOS for it is correct to ensure the new processor is completely recognized prior to reinstalling Windows. A BIOS upgrade may be needed if the one installed is not listed for the processor by the motherboard manufacture. Just because Windows shows the processor correctly does not mean the BIOS is correct and running the processor 100%.  

I was simply pointing out that even with a reinstall, applying that hotfix correctly may also fix hyperthread stutter and frame issues with flight sim and other 3D applications. Since hyperthread mimics a dual core in some ways, applying the hotfix may very well resolve the issues created by it.
