I'm looking to get a new PCI video card. I have an Nvidia Geforce 6200 with 128 MB of memory :P. Any ideas? I have a budget of around $150 and below. Thanks!

This might sound kind of dumb but have you considered an ATI Radeon 9250,I have almost the same computer as you do except for the video card because I use the ATI,I even use the X-52.It is not a bad card for people on a budget but for the newest of games it is not really all that good,I do use it for FSX and I used it for FS2004,with the setings turned down, like the trees and stuff and the tweaks I used (the ones I could do) I get about 20fps in rural areas and if I go into a city it drops to about 15fps,but I don't complain about it.The frame rates are for FSX by the way,I can't remember what they were for fs2004.The one I use has the 256MB DDR memory in it,I don't know if it makes a difference because I have read it doesn't but a computer expert I am not, just passing on my experience with the card I have in it now.So until I can afford

Sounds to me like we're in the same boat. Trying to make the best out of a computer that is a little outdated. I would love to upgrade, but I'm not exactly made of money-especially enough for what it would take to run FSX the way I would like it. I don't mean to complain or anything, but it can be frustrating sometimes. Even with the sliders down though, it looks AWESOME! I can't believe you can get that kind of performance even when the settings are turned down. I just looked-it has a 240 mhz core clock, which is 110 mhz lower than the 6200, although i guess the extra memory would do something for you.I'll do a little more research on it and see what I come up with. Thanks Lee.

By the way, welcome to SimV from a fellow newbie ;D.

Well it's like they say right you make do with what you have, the computer I have now is my first new one in over ten years.I still have my first computer,an old Pentium 75mhz that is pretty much only usefull as a paperweight except that we still use it for the Office programs and a couple other things. When I got the one I have now it had an intergrated graphics card,it was alright for some games but not the more demanding ones so I looked around and found the ATI card.I mostly bought it because it was the only one listed on the box for the game I wanted to play that was a PCI card,I did just about everything I could do to it now.I have to keep the settings for FSX on low because even the trees will slow it down, however when I changed the ground textures to 512x512 is when I noticed the jump in frames and I can turn the autogen up a bit now too. Thanks for the welcome these folks are really friendly and helpful on this forum, glad I registered.

Leep, a radeon 9250 is at least 4 years older than the 6200 series.

Hey Congo I had no idea the 9250 was that old, unfortunatly this is what happens when you are a tight budget, you get stuck with outdated hardware and you never get the performance you know other people with newer stuff can get.I did know when I got FSX that I would not be seeing extreme frame rates but when you are used to

I wasn't laughing really, just nipping misinformation in the bud so someone doesn't rush out and buy a 9250.

I also am on a very tight budget, but I place a high priority on my Simming setup, so I managed a decent rig by carefully selecting and sourcing quality parts at reasonable prices.

I don't feel so bad. My card came in at Number 57...

Great post, congo. Did you type all that by hand or use some crazy program to make that list?

I used a crazy program. Windows.

Try Highlighting any text and then pressing Ctrl + C, that copies the text to a ram buffer called  the clipboard, then open a text file and press Ctrl + V to paste the text to that file.

The clipboard can hold a single item only and that item can be one of any number of filetypes including pictures. You can also right click the mouse and select Copy after highlighting text.... then Paste it the item where you want with a similar  vbnhg
This method works in web pages and all kinds of software, try it.

Hey Congo,I didn't mean to sound as though you were laughing it was a bad joke I guess but at least you stepped in and told us about it,anyway all I want to say is sorry if I got Future's hopes up about the 9250 being a good card, glad it didn't go any
