Joystick Programming

Forgive me if this has been covered, I did a search but came up with no results.  I have an older Saitek x45 joystick/throttle, and haven't used it much, heck haven't used FS9 much for that matter, but I was trying to program the buttons, however I have run into a problem.  The rotary wheels on the throttle, are they programable, for say the trim wheel? I have tried to get them to work, but have had no luck.

If anyone has any advice or hints, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'd check them when setting up the joystick in Windows rather than FS. Some sticks you can do it with some not. I'm not familiar with the 45 personally but I'd think it would be possible...

Never have any trouble using FS9 to program pots on my X45...
However, I did have some trouble until I realized that I kept forgetting to turn up the sensitivity of the pot in FS9...
Default is zero...

Controls> Sensitivities> Joystick Axes> scroll down for mixture, trim, props, throttles, etc... there are multi and single-engine options.

If that's not it, I dunno... I've tried the Saitek software, and it doesn't always "play nice" with FS9.

I guess I am not sure what you are saying, here, I am kinda a newbie at this.  The way I am trying to program the wheels is by going to the Assignment screen, double clicking on the control I want to program and then pushing the button on the joystick to assign it.  This works fine for the buttons by I don't know how to use this process to assign the rotary wheels to control the trim.

Again, I apologize, I am going to say no since I am not real sure how or what to configure in Windows.  I basically have plugged the joystick into the USB port, let Windows recongnize it and load the drivers.

Sorry for not having much knowlege on this subject.

Thanks for the responses, I think that I have figured it out.  Now I just need to figure out how to calibrate the rotary wheel.
