I finally overcklock my 6800 up to 3.9! But with proper voltage to run it stable it

im not sure what stock intel fans are like but take a look over at

if you have loads of cash you could always give the water cooling ago. but personaly i wouldnt touch it

with 3dmark 06 I got the score op to 11211! but the CPU got over 60!

water cooling would be the answer to your problem as your temps would be lovely and low and your PC would be virtualy silent. i know people who have it and they say its awesome and worth doing. but personaly something about having water in my case that makes me uneasy

HOLD EVERYTHING!!!!! First off watercooling IS NOT your answer, the Zalman CNPS-9500Cu is. For about $60 you can get a cooler that will do the job just as well as most watercooling setups. Mine runs my pressy at 38C ~ 58C load, which for a pressy is impressive with my overclock. Also 60C for a processer isn't hot, thats about an average load temp under a stock cooler.

Again watercooling IS NOT your answer. Reason being is that a watercooled SLi rig useing DangerDen TDX blocks, with one of the new radiators, and one of their new pumps will cost you well over $450, and will only previde better results than the Zalman because you have the ability to pump sub zero water through your rig.

Seriously though, a CNPS-9500 or 9700 is the way to go. Again to proove my point, Maximum PC did an article on overclocking the Core 2 Duo X6800. They found that under a CNPS-9500Cu that it idled around 20C and got about 38C at load. Hell they couldn't get it to break 45C EVEN WITH TURNING OFF THE FAN!!!! Seriously a Zalman and some Artic Silver 5 are the way to go.

Size. The CNPS-9500 has a 92mm fan and the 9700 a 110mm one. Personally I would go with the 9500 as the 9700 just adds more weight, and not too much more cooling. The number of heat pipes are the same, and the block itself is the same surface area, the copper coil is just a bit bigger.

I always liked those coolers, the big typhoon gets great reviews as well, but the zalmans look better to me.

Good call on staying with air as well, water is a hassle from things I've read.

YF, will you please try an experiment for me? Take the two side covers off before you take the stock cooler off and run the PC just like you did when you were getting the overheat to 60* (not really an overheat at that temp, but  60* is about as hot as I like to see a cpu get).

And then, please report the temps you get after about 20 minutes with the case sides off, I'm very interested to see if it makes a profound difference or not.

BTW, my mark3d score is 10594  and whan I overcklock the 2.93 to 3.73 Its 11211, how is it? like it should be or not? i'm doing this the "first time"!
