Urgent GPU Help

So today, I went out and got a 7600GT to replace my aging 6600 (yes I know the DX10 cards are coming, but the 6600 was just unacceptable.

Anyway, I go and put in the new 7600 and when I go to start the computer all I get is a black screen following the Windows XP startup page. The login screen would never show. So, I put the 6600 back in the computer and the same thing happened. I then booted the computer from the XP disc, and I got into the UI with the 6600 installed. So, I installed the drivers for the 7600 thinking that it was a driver issue, shut down the computer, and then put the 7600 back in. I got into the computer once more, configured a few things, and then was prompted to do a restart. I got the black screen again. I put the 6600 back in with the XP disc, and I still got nothing. I'm really frustrated right now and any help is MUCH appreciated.

Oh boy.

Okay here is what we are going to do. Put the 6600 into your rig. Then boot into safe mode. Uninstall your current nVidia driver. Then go to nVidia's website and get the latest Forceware. Then restart your computer. This time boot up with the 7600 installed. Now its going to say "New hardware found" Close those popups and install the forceware you downloaded from nVidia. Restart the computer again, and do a thorough defrag useing O&O.

Cheers

Thanks for the help, guys, but I got it working. I guess I just wasn't holding my mouth right. Anyway, the difference this card makes is really pretty amazing. The 6600 was pretty weak! I would have gotten the 7900 but I didn't want to spend too much money only to have to replace the card in April or May when Vista is released. Thanks again for the help, though! Much appreciated!
