Can anyone help me?

Postby afi0yz » Fri Dec 29, 2006 12:18 am

ok heres the story:

about 3 months ago I was on my computer running a few programs when all of a sudden the computer froze up and the cpu fan started running at a high speed.

heres the problem:

When I started the computer back up (many times), all that happened was the proccesor fan turned on at a high rate of speed with nothing on the monitor at all, however the hard drive sounded like it started up just fine.  I could not figure out what the problem was.

So can anyone help me out with this?  I was thinking I might have fried something or I got a virus

Reset CMOS (BIOS) according to the instructions in your manual.

If you can't find instructions you'll need to locate the CMOS RESET jumper (or similar name) on your motherboard, it's sometimes near the coin shaped battery on the motherboard.

Unplug the power cord from the PC.

Take the battery out.

Place the RESET jumper in the reset position for 1 minute then replace in the "run" or original position.

Replace the battery.

Replace the power cord.

Boot the computer.

You should go into the BIOS configuration screen and reset BIOS to suit your computer and it's devices.

Reboot into windows.

I had a similar problem last week, where my BIOS froze at boot up.  I reset the CMOS and voila, my computer works fine now.
