No disk drive! Help Meeee!

Postby Franky_4_Fingers » Thu Dec 28, 2006 3:19 am

Another disaster with new hardware. I installed a WinTV-PVR 150 and it wouldn't work. Long story. When i tried to get the drivers to install, all hell broke loose and my disk drive icon is now gone. In device manager i can see the drive listed but i can't get it to work. I get a message that says my drivers might be corrupt. There are no factory drivers for this dvd rom drive, it uses windows drivers. I can't reinstall the windows drivers because my disc drive doesn't work (catch 22). How can i get my drive working again?

Can you boot to safe mode? try F8 on bootup for it.
Can you get to control pannel & add remove?, if so remove the bad install, good luck

I could tell you to boot up win98 and see if your partition is Ok (your ini sector could been erased)But as long I see you are loading you system fine, otherwise woul'nt been able to start, perhaps its something of WinXp ,Did you try restore?

You Know? I catch a virus once ,and did things like you are describing..

Since you say you can see it in Device Manager while there right click on the drive/update driver.
When the window opens asking to search for drivers check no not this time, and when the next window opens have it  install automatically, if it is using Windows Drivers this should load them.

Find out the make/type of drive, then search the internet for drivers. There'll be some out there somewhere. And it'll make it work better than before.

It turns out it's plug and play, no drivers needed. I called LG and they told me how to restore the drive in device manager. That lasted about 10 seconds and then the drive letter vanished. I got sick of all this and called the pc shop where i bought the tv card. Since it was the software that caused this mess, i gave them my pc and the card and said "FIX IT!"

Thats the spirit! Make it somebody else's problem! Just kidding. Don't you just hate it when some stupid incompatibility flushes your investments down the loo!  ;)
