Hi, I'm going to upgrade my graphics card for FSX and I was thinking about getting a ATI Radeon 9800 XT 256MB 128bit card. Can anyone tell me how well (or not) this card will perform??
Or should I be looking at another card?
Thanks
Damian

According to Microsoft, that card meets the requirements. From flying the game already, I can tell you that you will probably have to have everything set pretty low in order to get frame rates that allow smooth flight. That all depends on what the rest of your system specs. are.
The ATI 9800 series cards are several years old now.......unless you are getting it free or dirt cheap, I would be looking for newer cards that are relatively new as far as when they were released.
It's all subjective.......depends on many factors, how well do you want FSX to run and at what settings?....are you upgrading for a quick fix or for the future? What are your current system specs...are they good enough to warrant sinking money into it or should you wait and get a complete new system?
Things to think about.

humm... current system is 2Ghz, 768MB DDR with a Nvidia FX 5900 128MB. FSX plays smooth a it is now on low settings, I want to increase the building population ( I want to see terminals) and airframe visuals internal and external.
Looking at newer cards...GEFORCE 7600GS 512MB??
Sorry, I'm very out of touch with Nvidia cards.

If I were you, I would wait until next year for a GPU update when the DX10 revolution is in full-swing. It wouldn't be very wise at this juncture to upgrade due to the new stuff that is being released in the coming months. If you upgrade now, you will just have to do it all over again when DX10 is released.

Do you run the recommended settings from the nZone, or do you do something different?

my cards not even listed on there so i just tweaked and played around until i found the right combinations, its all a matter of personal prefernce whether your willing to trade autogen for the extra special things like reflections and stuff like that.

I understand, but will we be looking at some new cards supporting DX 10 that are very good.... but cost upwards of
