Really confused which graphics card I should get?

Hi all,

Got FSX for Crimbo which is great but, as I expected, my graphics card struggles when the sliders are up. I currently have an Nvidia GeForce 6200 256Mb and looking to upgrade my card but aint got a clue where to start. Firstly, I understand that some top-end cards may not fit in the slot and am unsure how to find out which ones will and will not fit. Secondly, I have had no real problem with Nvidia so am thinking I would like another and I have looked at the various specs of cards like the 6800 256Mb and 7800GT 512Mb but am lost because when I compare the specs of my current card with the 6800 I can see that my card has the memory type DDR2 while the 6800 is DDR but the difference in price is approx

I think you should go for 1 Gb more RAM first. You only have 1 Gb of DDR. I don't think that's enought to run FSX. I'm not sure if you can install any DDR2 RAM though...

The GPU you should get is the GeForce 8800 GTX. With those you have DirectX 10 support, but they're very expensive. The cheapest I can find is

Hold off until march at the least and maybe get whatever cards better (ATI or Nvidia at that point) And vista is actually out. Maybe you can save a bit more too.

Wait to buy for 1-2 years. Then you can get DX10 compatible cards for a much lower price. Thats what I'm doing. The waiting game....
