Optimizer tool

Postby gypsymoth » Sat Dec 23, 2006 5:24 am

I've just had a computer scan performed & before I go ahead & buy it, to put right some faults it said it found, it I'd like to know what fellow-simmers who know more about this than I do, think.    Does it work or it a waste of money & could it cause damage?

You're not exactly bowling us over with information, mate.  The people on here need more to work with than that.

I assumed this tool would be well-known among long-term computer users, so sorry but here goes, then.   It's PC Pitstop Optimiza that has scanned my Dell & found registry problems, slow internet connection (seems OK to me tho') & a background programme that should be turned off.  As a newbie I came across this optimizer when looking for Cameron's CPU-Z which checks computer info.

Hope this makes sense?  I don't want to let an unknown programme change things in my comuputer
& then learn I should not have bought it.

Although I have never used this particular program it has basically found everything anyones computer may have issues with   ;D
I would not bother paying money for common sense, there are many easy ways to clean and set up your computer for best performance that are free.

As for cleaning the registry if you don't know how to do it by yourself then I would recommend not touching it or trying Registry Mechanic from PC Tools.
Background programs are different, most will tell you to shut down anything that you don't need  and is easy enough to do yourself.
Services are another story again most will tell you to shut most of them down, but don't realize the adverse effects this will casue.
Internet connection if on a dial up modem you can "tweak" all you like but 9 times out of 10 you won't get anywhere ;)

Check out the post by NickN, he is propbably the most knowledgable here on the subject and has a wealth of information that will get your pc running in top shape.

Of course by SimV Law now you must understand no one is responsible for any changes you make :)

I have tried every possible tweak, program, enhancement etc available to speed up my system and give awesome performance and if Nick would have posted this info a few years ago I would have saved so much time, it is the ultimate way to set up you PC and keep it running in top shape!!!

Thanks PI.  Actually, I'm on broadband  ::)  & it's through surfing here that I have become more informed & certainly more wary, hence my question.    I am fairly satisfied with how things are running & having followed tweaking advice for fs9 recently I'm even more satisfied.   Enabling AA/AF on my graphics card has certainly improved the view!

I'll check NickN's post.

Happy Christmas!
