Well, I got my motherboard, CPU, and power supply on wednesday, and it looks awesome. I'm getting my video card, another GB of RAM, and a new case after christmas. It's gonna be an awesome machine.

Motherboard: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939
Chipset: NVIDIA nForce4 SLI.
Power Supply: Rosewill 550w, SLI ready
CPU: AMD Athalon 64 3800+ @ 2.4GHz
Video Card: 2xNvidia 7900GS w/256mb of memory
RAM: 1GB G.SKILL DDR 400 (PC3200) plus the 1GB I have currently

Here's some pics of the mobo and psu.

I'll have better ones later...

Also, here are links to the stuff I'm still waiting on.

Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150202
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6820231046
Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811208020

I think that should be plenty of power to run FSX, what do you think?

Looks good, but to be honest, you really should have gone the Conroe way.  But if you're an AMD fan, thats fine.  And if I were you, I would have got an 8800GTS instead of the 2 7900s.  It has DX10 support, which will be more useful for FSX. ;)

What core is that 3800+? Depending on which it is, you may have screwed yourself out of much overclocking potential.

And a Hiper Type R would have made a better choice than that Roswell.

Cheers

I'm not disputing your perception YF, but to me, smooth and playable is 40+ FPS, preferably around 60.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but if your trying to tell everyone that 15 fps is acceptable, I, for one, will have to be on mogadon for a week to agree with that.

i have the 4600+ which is very good

john

I thought he already had a dual core, and if you read guitarperson05's post, he already has it running at 4600+ speeds!

That socket 939 board is one of the nicest boards ever made, trouble free and does what it's supposed to do well.

Very nice rig!

I'm thinking his downfall will be the PSU. Especially if running two 7900's

Yeah, I heard the mobo needs a lot of power. I have a 630w lined up just in case...

If you need more then 30FPS in FSX to be smoooooooth, is it somthing i'm mising? or you have dreams for 10 yaers from now?! (not t go personly...)

or mabe whan we say smooth, we both mean different facts?

I'm wating for the next "hit" card from nvidia, I hope it will at least be beeter on/or better the jump from the 7 cards to the 8800.

my ATI crosfire cards is on ebay for 299.99

b.t.w. the new Abit aw9d max mobo, is not 16X PCIE its each 8X so when you go crosfire you get the 16X, and if I have a good memory, I'ts clearly writen on the box! "poor abit suckers"

maby the new in932x MAX is better, I "lost trust" in abit.   not to say that the 680i sli is problem free, but at least no scams.

It is not how many WATTS your PSU has. It is how many AMPS on the 12V rails the PSU produces. 12V rail is by far the most important one. Watts is a measure of how much electricity your PSU uses, amps is a measure of how much current it can generate.

For example, compare this 520W Corsair PSU.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139001

To your beloved Hiper 580W PSU.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817128002

The Corsair has three 18A 12V rails, while the Hiper has one 20A and one 18A rail. So, the Corsair can generate more 12V current than the Hiper even though it has a lower wattage. Hiper is a good PSU, but it is not a high end PSU.

The thing is, a flight simulator can be played at a lower FPS, and still appear smooth. You can play FS9 or FSX at 30 fps, and it will look fine, because the gameplay is not fast paced. However, you can't play a first person shooter at 30 fps, it will look choppy due to the quicker gameplay. I personally use a 25 fps lock, so I don't have frame rate drops when I enter populated areas.

As for as I am aware there is no crossfire board that supports 32X crossfire. Maybe R600 will. Only SLI has 32X support.
