More memory does not necessarily make a card faster. The 7800GS has 256 MB, and it is WAYY faster. The core, memory, clock/memory speeds, number of pipelines, etc. is what determines speed. Both of those 7600GS are almost the same in those respects. I think the extra memory is marketing more than anything else.

Save longer and buy bigger. These little stepping stone upgrades that I see many people doing are pointless because the newer card or processer you are putting in will only achieve so much.

Personally I would save until your summer holiday and then buy a new rig for those short months where you can waste away infront of a screen in a dark room.

Cheers

Hey Cameron, your Sheila's whtsit is going far too fast to be read. What did you put up her pants, red peppers and she is doing half a crown sixspence?

Slow her down to read her specs.

Stepping stone upgrades can be a waste of money. For example if you buy a weak video card for $100, and then spend $200 on an upgrade 6 months later. You could have bought that $200 card to begin with and saved $100.

I like window shopping, so I checked what it would take to build a good system on a budget.

ctjoyce/Cameron has suggested I build a computer but as someone new to computing I don't know what to buy.    You've put a system together, cheesegrater, from a UK source, so if I ask nicely (please) will you suggest components that I might buy, for say,
