Wireless PC connect to Wired LAN ?

Postby congo » Thu Nov 30, 2006 11:23 pm

Hi,

I have a Billion BiPAC 7402VGP modem/wireless router/switch/VOIP device wired to two PC's in this room, and another PC at the other end of the house connecting by wireless.

I have a spare wireless card,
I have a spare Dynalink RTA230 bridging modem/router with one LAN port and a USB port,
I have a crossover cable and a straight ethernet cable spare.

The two PC's in this room are networking fine thru the 7402VGP.

Is there a way to connect the Wireless PC in the other room to this wired network?

I want to be able to access the internet from each PC independently and share files across the LAN for all PC's. Ideally, the LAN will support gaming on all PC's, both on LAN and through the internet.

Is it possible?

Please don't answer if you don't have a clue, the internet is full of threads that end nowhere on this subject.

You need to bridge the connection.  I'm not sure if this helps the file transfer part, but it certainly works on the internet.

The PC with the internet connection will need to be set-up so that it bridges the connection with the wireless one.  Then any PC connected to the wireless network can access the wired network (internet atleast).

If you go to the properties on the wired connection whilst the wireless one is enabled you should be able turn on internet connection sharing.  Click the advanced tab.  You should see "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."

You will need to give the other computer a fixed IP for the wireless network and use ad-hoc network.  Unless you have a router.  Messing around with the IPs to prevent them conflicting will get it working.
