I just started hearing about AMD and Intel progress into MULTI-CORE CPUs. its seems that AMD is going for the server processors first (opteron ) and later will follow with the upgrades of the other line. Not too sure what Intel will do. But makes me think, what if i buy a dual-core now? are they still viable for are they about to be phased out? anyone know more about this?
Thanks in advance!

Dual core is still a relatively new technology to the masses (not enthusiasts), so they'll be around for a few years yet. I'd say most of the users on this forum are still using single core, with a view to a dual core upgrade in the near future (with the exception of a few).
I wouldn't worry about it..

Quad cores are a technology that is new, and not quite needed yet. Intel is launching their Kentsfield core at the end of next year. Basically two Conres strapped together.

Duel core is the way to go for building now.
