Change of plans (maybe)...

Okay, so I just pulled my RAM out for fun, and I realized it's already DDR400 RAM, and I just ordered 2 GB of DDR400 RAM.  So will I see much of an improvement from 1 GB to 2 GB? How do I check the CAS latency of my current sticks?  Would it be worth it to use both old and new RAM to get 2.5GB instead of 2 GB?  And if I want to use both new and old RAM, what else do I have to check to see if they would be compatible?

Thanks again everyone. :)

I'm no expert, but since nobody's answered yet.. I'll add my opinion.

In FS9.. you probably won't see an improvement from 1GB to 2GB..

Depending on your motheboard.. 2GB will perform better than 2.5GB.. IF.. it takes you out of dual-channel mode.

On my Asus A8N-E.. the total RAM in slot-1 and slot-2  has to equal the total RAM in slot-3 and slot-4 for dual channel to work..

For best performance and stability use two identical sticks of RAM. Adding a 512MB stick of RAM will slow things down for sure.

See the link I posted in the Hardware Sticky to Everest, it will show you the SPD rating for memory sticks (default CAS and other timings) and it will show current timings in the overclock section. Don't be scared, it doesn't overclock your pc :)
