Hello and Welcome to the Simviation hardware forum. My name is Cameron, and let me be the first to welcome you here. In this thread you will find a basic outline of what we can do for you here, and some links to resources so you can teach yourself. So lets get started.

What parts do I need in my system?
About 70% of the threads we get here are on this topic, so lets give you some general info. Microsoft Flight Simulator 9 and 10 are two very stressing programs that eat your system resources faster than a fat kid can eat Twinkies.

Graphically its rather intense, so a dedicated 3D card is a must. Onboard graphics should never even be considered as they usually have around 2 pixel pipelines, 4 pixel shaders, and they draw from your system RAM, and CPU cycles to work. Adding a GPU is the first thing a simmer should think about upgrading when they want to get rid of choppy performance.

The second two components that FS eat are your CPU and RAM. As it is a simulation your CPU is working to monitor everything in the air, and what you

Nice one Cam ;D

Just for the record, the Allendale/Conroes are the same core, but the Allendales have half of the L2 cache disabled ;)

I still maintain that it is much more cost effective to go for the E6300, as one overclocked to 3Ghz will bench the same as a X6800, but it's your opinion, so fair enough :D

I think they are both good CPUs. It depends what your budget is. E6600 is $157 more than E6300. If you can afford the price jump I say go for it.

Like I said don't believe everything you read from them. Most of it is good stuff, but sometimes they tend to get a little skewed.

Very true, better choice than Overclockers especially if your stuck with an AGP based system.  ;)

UK members, or any worldwide member, let me know where you shop for hardware, so I can add the links. I only look at US sites, so I really don't know where to go for international.

For anyone in western Canada, www.eglobalci.com, in Vancouver BC, has treated me  very well. Competitive, no hidden costs, and the stuff is at my door (450 kms away) usually within 3 days. I recommend them.

For Canada take a look at:

www.ncix.com

I payed $20 shipping and my order arrived in 2 days. They ship from Vancouver, and I live in Ontario. I also got to avoid PST.

www.tigerdirect.ca

Another great store.
