Please Help!!

Okay guys, a new problem...My RAM seems to be acting up now...Here's the situation...I am guessing something is up here...:

Slot 1: 256MB PC3200 RAM
Slot 2: 256MB PC2700 RAM

Slot 3: 512MB PC3200 RAM
Slot 4: Nothing...

I am guessing there is something with that odd 2700 in there...As a result, whenever I run a game...say like NFSMW, I can access it for a while...and then I get a black screen...My machine stay's on...the only way to stop this is to manually reboot (press and hold Power button)...Funnily enough, this does NOT happen with FS9...I thought this was a PSU issue first, but it turns out it's not...

Also, this problem has never effected the system other than the time I play any games (except FS9)...

So, I was thinking...Shall I group both the PC3200 RAM sticks together and isolate the PC2700 one? Is that even right?

Please help guys, I really want to play all my games... :'( :'( :'(

EDIT: I am not in the mood of buying a new stick of RAM...Also, my motherboard supports 4GB of RAM...So I doubt that this could have any thing to do with it... :'(

EDIT2: Also, in my BIOS, the primary video adapter was set to PCI when my card is actually an AGP...so I changed that to AGP and then rebooted my computer...Could that be the reason? I am almost certain it is the RAM though...

Yep, isolate each stick in turn.

Test out games AND run memtest on each stick. That should find any problems ;)

Thanks GeForce...Someone once told me that you can only have the same size RAM sticks in each pair of slots...For example, the 256MB slots should go together...the 512 should remain separate...Is that true?

Why so many different ram sticks? I mean I run PC3200 with PC2700 (will it run right or will ALL the ram slow down to PC2700?) When it registers PC3200, that is, all my ram runs PC3200 in everest, but only two sticks that I know of are PC3200, and the other 2 are PC2700  (is that possible) Anyways, my solution, move the sticks around, I had perfectly working PC2700 from my old comp and because of my graphics card eating system ram I decided to install it, at first I had funny lines from the display at boot, so I took one out and tried it, worked, took the other one out, tried it, worked....... so then I put them both back in, lines, So I switched them around and Whalla, What do you know! No lines.... I hope this can help, and get me an answer to a question as well!

Cheers, Gunny

Well, I'll try to pair them PC3200 with PC3200 and I'll leave the PC2700 alone in it's own slot...I am still waiting for Cam to drop by and his 2 cents ;D

'Pairing' them won't do anything. All the RAM will run at the same speed (being DDR, double the FSB).

The speed of all the system's physical memory is governed by the slowest RAM ;)

This is the problem: you're mixing RAM.

Just take out the 2700 stick. If you still have problems take out the 256MB 3200 stick.

I personally would only put identical RAM in my system. By identical I mean identical manufacturer's part number. Mixing different brands, speeds, etc. creates problems.

It would help if you give the mainboard ID, without that, accurate advice cannot be given.

Many chipsets these days use dual channel ram configuration which will not work properly if not set up correctly with the right ram.

In any event, mixing in a PC2700 stick is asking for a performance hit if nothing else.

Your mainboard manual will advise on correct ram installation as long as you don't own a Dell or similar POS.

Hmmm, it's a dual channel ram board.

It needs 2 identical (or near same) sticks of PC3200 or above to run at it's best. You don't have the right ram to make this possible as you need two sticks the same size, speed and architecture.

If you did have suitable ram, it would need to be installed correctly into the dual channel configuration as per your mainboard instructions.

Also, I don't see any evidence at all that your ram is causing the aforementioned problem, so why do you suspect it?
