well i got fsx but to use the ATC online you really need a microphone, i got 1 I can use (2 actually-but i dont like the other 1)However when I plug it intothe microphone in socket on the back of my pc and try speaking on windows voice recorder nothing happens. If tried everything I can think off, the micophones not broke because i tested another mic on it (unless both are broke which is probably just my luck lol

)
microphones arent muted (volumes at loudest)
I got an onboard soundcard and have to disconnect 2 of my surround sound speakers to use a mic, unless it works if its pluged into the back of the subwoofer (speakers are creative labs inspire p5800)in a socket called aux in (which i doubt)
my pc uses soundmax for sound (i think)
if nobody knows how to fix this would a usb microphone or a dedicated soundcard work?
thanks

Try boosting it, if that doesnt work, try a sound card..... I remember on my old comp the speaker outputs on the front went dead..... you could go into the Sound cards settings and tamper with the mic part..... No device for the recording could be set, But mics are a tricky business, usually they work, or they dont, they are really cheap, so go out and buy a 5-10 dollar cheapo and see if it works, if it does...... need a new one (or use the cheapo)

DON'T PLUG IT INTO THE AUX-IN HOLE!!! :o

Maybe you should try this:
Start - All Programs - (Bureau) Assecoires - Entertainment - Volume settings (the little slider icon.
Then go to options - properties
Select recording and then check the mic. It should work now with the default windows sound recorder. If it doesn't work at all, it's probably broken. Just to be sure, check if the recording volume of the mic is set to maximum and uncheck the mute option.
Hope this helps...

If you get a dedicated sound card, you can use it for speakers and the mic.... only 1 mic will work at a time on most computers. My Guess is your onboard might be shot, or screwed up, you could try a 5.1 Creative sound blaster live, there about 30 bucks at walmart (sometimes as low as 24 USD) and I always reckon you get a clip microphone, I loved headsets, but the last one I bought died..... The headphones dont work, but the mic does.... Hence why I now suggest clip on mics, and a seperate pair of headphones or just use your speakers for sound instead of a headset. Its all up to you, but s dedicated sound card is always helpful I find.
