Power Draw

Postby Bubblehead » Sat Oct 14, 2006 11:02 am

I have four HDs in my PC - Two SATAs and two Ultra ATAs. Do these drives run continuosly while the PC is powered up? or do they sleep when programs are not in use?

they always run, unless you want them to shut off, but I would just keep them all running at the same time!

To be clearer, yes your drives are always on, but not always spinning. So your OS disk will always be spinning because your constantly useing it, however your storage disks will remain still, but still drawing power.

If your truely worried about it, you can turn the SATA drives off via XP, HOWEVER if they arn't hot swappable, your going to have to reboot your computer to get them back on again.
