Nvidia G80 Unveiled

Hey all
The Geforce 8800GTX and GTS details have been Unveiled.

Details here: http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4441

Personally I'm going to buy a GTS or wait for a cheap die shrink like the 7900GT. Looks great, although the cooling is abit extreme! I wonder if the GTS has that big water cooler?

A few questions:
I wonder how many pixel pipes it has? What are ROPS? What are ALUs?

Thanks.

EDIT: Yay 100th post. XD

Yup...and I think I'll wait for DX10 to come out before investing in a new card...I will be getting a kick butt rig when it's time for college... 8) 8)

The G80 is DX10 ;)

As for the watercooling option, thats just what their useing for the demo cards. The actual retail ones will most likely have a cooler similar to that of the 7900GTX

It looks promasng though, cant wait for this and also the R600 series from ATi

as cool as they are they are absolutly pointless until vista is released because nothing will use all that power.. i mean the 7900's run everythying maxed out why do you need to spend 250 quid on something that wnt be used properly for another 5 months or so?

but as soon as i get vista DX10 card here i come :D ;D

Remember it's not released yet. They've only said they're developing it.

Exactly. We will see DX10 cards sometime in november of next year. DX10 isn't shipping with Vista you must remember.

Actually it said the Second week of November this year I believe..... Cheers, Gunny

EDIT: here is a quote from that site 'Expect GeForce 8800GTX and 8800GTS products to launch the second week of November 2006'

and on a side note, I know they wont sell em with water blocks (That would be stupid) I was joking.... but I could use with one of these..... just need a good PSU and I'd be happy! Cheers, Gunny

And as a side note, if we went with MS's first release date, we would all be running Vista now ;)

We will see them more along the lines of next summer.

I hope the GTS dosn't cost $450-$500. I was thinking more $350-$400, oh well..... I may just buy a die shrink later on like the 7900GT.

I'm waiting for 4 core CPUs and probably dual core GFX cards, with PhysX engine.

Well both the G80 and R600 are going to have a PhysX built into the card, so unless Ageia can pull something amazing out of their ass, and convice the population to buy a stand alone card, they are going under.

As for the Quad core CPUs, the benchmarks arn't that impressive. Grab an E6600, and wait for the second gen of Kentsfield. The theory of two cores per die has never been used.

As for me, I'm probably going to save up and build a PC that will freaking RULE- see my "Would this setup work for FSX?" thread for the specs.
