Upgrade question (s)..

It looks like my Athlon64 3700 (o-clocked) and this eVGA 7800GT aren't going to allow very liberal settings in FSX..
Since it looks like it's going to be a while before VISTA and all this DX10 stuff is out.. I'm going to keep the 7800GT, for now.
Question.. What CPU would be a reasonable upgrade for this Asus A8N-E M/B ? Or is it pointless to upgrade the CPU and not the video card ?
And.. would more RAM (1gb Corsair 3200 now) be worth buying, not knowing for sure if the next system will be something Intel where the new RAM might be useless ?

Just stay where you are. You could go to a 4400+ or 2GB of RAM, but the better upgrade in the end is a E6300 and a DX10 card. Just dont play FSX now, save, spend, then when the game is out your going to have the system to play it on.

Since you're on the 939 socket new RAM you buy will be useless in a new system because new systems need DDR2 RAM.
With your system you currently have the money you spend on an upgrade doesn't really justify the jump in performance at this time.

That's what I was thinking..
But maybe one of those AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 San Diego 2.6GHz Socket 939 CPUs ? They're getting pretty cheap..
Or would the v-card end up being a bottle-neck ?

You're 3700+ should be able to hit 2.6Ghz when it's overclocked. Same amount of L1/L2 cache etc, so completely pointless upgrade.
The jump in real world performance between DDR and DDR2 memory is pretty small to be honest, but if you can go DDR2, you should go for it.

OK.. thanks guys. I'll just push this thing to the meltdown point and plan on building a complete, VISTA, DX10, FSX computer early next year..
I'll be back for more input then ;D
