Upgrading bios... Without a floppy!?

Postby Gunny04 » Sat Oct 07, 2006 7:51 pm

Is this possible? I didnt save the floppy from my old PC, and this computer didnt come with one..... My motherboard has a Bios upgrade download for the sensors and fan controller on it..... Now I'd love this as my sensor readings are not really constant or reliable..... but I dont havea floppy, do I have do buy a Drive on ebay, or can I just burn a bootable CD or something? Cheers, Gunny

Unless the software allows you to use another media, then you're stuck with the need to get a floppy drive and a floppy disk.

No, you don't need a floppy to update the BIOS. Most manufacaturers have auto-update utilities that update the BIOS from Windows. I used them before and I had no problems updating.

I think I'll get an external USB Floppy drive for all the computers I ever use.... my only question is, Will a USB be able to be a first bootable device? as in the bios? I am running on no sleep in like 19 hours so my mind is a little slow.... Cheers, Gunny

A fan controoler does just that. You plug in all your case fans to it, and ajust the knobs accordingly. Though I have one, I never use it. Just crank it all the way up and leave it.
