Postby flyboy4992 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:50 am

hey guys,
i will be buying a new computer soon and i was wondering what should the specs be for this computer so it will handle FSX with medium to high settings. i have about $700 american money to spend on a computer. the reason why i am buying a new computer is the one i have now barely handles FS9  :o  :-[

I suggest you save those $700 and build up that money to get a more serious computer. Most rigs that are able to handle FSX would most likely cost about at least a good $1,700.

before monitor, Keyboard, Speakers, Sound card, and Mouse.... I'd say about 1000-1500 USD for a good rig... now I recon you save until Vista and FSX are out, that way you can have a true Vista computer without ever having put XP on it! Cheers, Gunny

To be honest, that computer would not be able to handle FSX well at high settings, maybe at low or not even.  If you are going to get a new computer, at least get a dual core processor, and a video card is a must.  Integrated graphics don't cut it for gaming.
Mess with the best, die like the rest.

God we need to have a stickey so that the n00bs will stop asking this dumb question.

First things first. To get a GOOD FS rig that will play at 35+FPS on high settings your going to need to drop AT LEAST $1000 With the future looking for dual core processers, 2GB or more of RAM, and high end GPUs, spending less is like kicking yourself in the mouth after having braces put on. You don't feel the pain at first because your so happy about your new rig, but then slowly but surely the lag factor kicks in, and you wish you had spent more and bought a good system.

Secondly. OEM computers are for the general public for a reason THEY ARE GENERAL. They are not made to be gamed on, they are ment to be setup to watch movies, pirate music, write school reports, and fill with spyware. They are not intended for gaming, and when a OEM does build a "gaming" rig they way overprice it, and usually the gaming community hates it. Again buying an OEM is one of the dumbest things you can do if your looking for a good FS rig.

Lastly. Americans listen up! www.newegg.com is your best friend. They have the best everything from prices to customer service. Every computer part I have ever put into Sheila has come from that site, and I have yet to have a faulty one. They are simply the best. You will also find that building a $1800 rig from newegg will match the one from Dell costing $3K+

And another note BUDGET USERS STOP WHINEING! I understand that not everyone can afford to keep upgrading with the hardware, or throw $2K at every build, but seriously you get what you pay for. A budget system will never run FS9, FSX, or Vista half as well as the $1K system, you can tweak all you want, but it wouln't happen.  Save longer buy bigger, cus you can't turn a sow's ear into a silk purse.

As for parts

E6600
Gigabyte P965 board
2GB OCZ or Corsair RAM (Mushkin isn't bad ithor, neithor is Crucial Balsticx)
120+ GB SATA3 drive (yes the SATA3 does matter for vista).
DVD drive,
Hiper Type R PSU (or other 500W+ stable PSU)

A rig like that will total about $1200 depending on the case you use, along with RAM and HDD size.

Again, if your not spending $800+ your not spending enough, and your most likely getting crap hardware.

Cheers

I eventually need to moderate this board. I've tried to get a stickey in here several times on how to shop for a new system, or how to build a new system, or other topics like that, but the big boys don't listen. Oh well I have my  "template" in word so that I can rant at the n00bs without tireing out my hands typeing.

@Mees: I say more like two. In Nov depending on the actual preformance of NF5 then I'll throw in an NF5 board. Until then we get P965

Cheers

Please don't take offence at this Cameron, but eventually is the operative word... I for one value your opinions, and if I ever NEED to build a new rig then I will take your advice (and select others) above most on this board, however not everybody has the wherewithall, funds or otherwise, to upgrade to the standard that you expect and require.
Some of us have kids to look after, feed and clothe!
When you understand this, then moderate by all means!
You're a very knowledgable, likeable & enthusiatic kid who loves his hardware, just sometimes you ask a bit too much.
With all good intentions,
Rob.

Alright here we go.. Ct you may not like me after this but shut  up if your going to call respected members names like noob. Not evryone has the money or the experence you have in computers. I have just recently gained knowledge in computer parts so i understand where he is comming from. and yes you were 100% correct in your post but i found the "tone" and your attitude in the post to be a little ignorant and rude. To me the fact that you spent more on your watch then i did on my computer, that runs FS9 and FSX (demo) with good graphics just shows me your not exactly in touch with the same world others are in.

Im sorry but i just fealt i needed to say something beacuse i have seen this same tone in other threads.

Now on to the main thing. Yes 700 will not get you a rig that will handle FSX. You will need to build one to get the most out of the machiene, its not as hard as it may seem. I would suggest the types of things to look for would be:

at LEAST 2 gigs of ram
duel core processor 2.5ghz i would hope, personally i like AMD
a motherboard that will hande that, also make shure it has PCI Express slots and never buy a cheap motherboard
I have a Nividia 7900GT and it runs the FSX demo quite well but not evryone is a fan of nividia or the 7900 so peraps someone can recomend a good card.
you will need a DVD drive, make shure you get one or the computer wont even be able to read the disks FSX came on ;D ;)
And the 160GB hardrive you mentioned seems pretty good to me.

Scince you have keyboard monitor and mouse alltogeather it should cost atleast 900. You can get good cases pretty cheap but also i would make shure it comes with a 400w power supply. Will give you plentey of power and allow future upgrades.

Also Ctjoyce i hope i didnt offend you.
