DVDRW Drive Doesn't Recognize My DVD

I recorded some of my football film to DVD+RW using a Cyber Home DVD recorder. However, when I put it in my computer (Emachines T3418)'s DVDRW drive, it wouldn't ever see it. It would tell there wasn't a disc in Drive E. So I tried it using a DVD-RW, but I got the same result. Both of these work in all the DVD players in the house though. After that I put in a movie my friend made on a DVD-R and it worked perfectly. Anybody know why it won't recognize my movies?

I dont have a answer but I know my 2 BenQs are a crap shoot, sometimes a dvd will work in one and not the other and vice versa, seems like it depends on the mood they are in. But this is rather annoying, they do it the same with CDs.
I have tried the updates etc.. but its the same some days I get lucky and others I dont.

I have had people tell me certain dvd drives will only work with certain dvd brands so maybe if there is truth to that this could be your problem. ???

Have you tried cleaning the drive and the disk? Sometimes it as simple as that (someone who had a similar problem) ;)

Yes it could be dust in the lens(do not use those disc for cleaning trust me you dont wanna do that)after you disamble the dvd-rom unit get a quit tips Dry not with alcohol or any other liquid , Dry and softly pass it (with very tiny circles) to remove the dust Don't push it down.. this lens, Don't blow it with your mouth, there lenses are very delicate.
but if  this unit use to read copys in the pass and suddenly is not,the lens must be dirty with dust ,do it carefully....

Have you installed any games with starforce or any UBI soft games? If so, tell me, and tell me which ones.

Ahh the dreaded "punish the innocent Starforce"  ;D good call.

But he did mention it being a DVD-RW, those are something my BenQs wont even touch (even though they are suppose too) I have yet to find a DVD-RW that will work in any drive I have owned.

I use 2 different brands of DVD players for the same reason.

I don't think it's the lense because it reads a burned DVD-R my friend made and the DVD "John Q" just fine. It plays cd's fine as well.

The thing about UBI Soft games is killing me, because I could swear I've got one on here, but I don't have a clue what it is. I went through all my games but couldn't find it. Is Command & Conquer UBI Soft?

Thanks for the help. The next thing I'll do is switch DVD+RW brands.

The one with the bad Starforce is LOMAC, although it is supposidly fixed, but there are other companies that use Starforce also as a matter of fact my copy of Rush For Berlin has it.

But i would say your drive has a issue with the DVD-RW, like mentioned above I have yet found a rewritable dvd that will work in any of my BenQs.
