....from a simple person... ;D

..but, I'm hearing all this talk about "when DX10 arrives...".. am I to believe that NO card out at this moment can handle DX10, or can they handle it, but it's just not out yet ?

If they CAN'T handle it, why is everyone wasting their money on 7900 cards ,,etc ,, when they'll be redundant in a few months time ?  ???

Okay how it works is current hardware will be able to run DX10, and DX10 apps. However they wouldnt be able to have the advanced features turned on in game. Its like running DX9 on a DX8 card. Yes it will work, however not as well as a lower end DX9 card. The idea is we want the best right now, and something decent to hold us until both nVidia and ATi release their DX10 cores, and we can get the money together to buy one.

Cheers

DirectX 10 won't be available to the general public either apparently, it's embedded into Windows Vista, therefore requiring an OS upgrade. No Vista, no DX10.

Even with Vista and new generation DX10 cards, there remains the problem of waiting until software is written that supports DX10.

A 7900GT or other DX9 card will be fine for a while, however, I wouldn't go for 2 x Extreme SLI $$$$ cards right now unless you can afford to replace them in a year or so.

Thanks for the info.

I have a XFX GeForce 7600GT XXX Edition, overclocked to run at 590 Mhz
coupled with a AMD 64 3500+ , so I don't think I'll be running FSX with that rigout anyway. I'll build a new , more capable system when the time ( and cash ) is right.
I often think that AMD, Intel , Nvidia and ATI are taking the p*ss in that they're saying to a captive audience  "OK, We'll make you pay through the nose for THIS, whilst we secretly work in the background to make THAT which will make the thing we just sold you redundant. And we know you'll buy it, because we havent given you much choice."

As a result, I don't go chasing technology anymore, I build my own systems and upgrade when I feel like it, not some marketing guy with a ponytail in California.

OK. Rant over   ;D
