Radeon 9600 question

Okay I've been doing some tweaking of the card from the desktop, trying to find out how to improve my poor fps.  Most of the sliders are fairly self-explanatory except for one.

When the tab "SMARTGART (tm)" is clicked, it shows one slider, which sets the AGP speed.  The options are Off, 1x, 2x, and 4x.

However, it also says above the slider, "SMARTGART ensures system stability by automatically performing a variety of bus tests that determine your optimal graphics accelerator settings.  Changing these settings could result in system instability."

It's set at 4x currently, but it probably wasn't that by default.  Would changing this setting help framerates at all?  If not, what would it do?

Uninstall what your currently using, and get ATi tool. Then turn on GPU recover in the ATi control panel. That's all you need.

To answer your question yor question, slowing the bus speed will only be bad.
