I see some providers offer Wireless Router with their BB.
Is there anything to be achieved by this system on a PC?

Simply put, no. If the broadband is only going to be used on one computer, its far better to use a wired connections, as this is more reliable in my experience to have a wireless connection.

Well wireless B is very old news. G is currently the standird, and N is the newest, however not yet a standird.

However I personally have noticed almost no difference in download speed, gaming, etc on wireless vs wired. Only in data transfer did I ever notice a drop in wireless.

You dont want Wireless B... you want wireless G. As Cam mentioned N is coming of age but you dont need to go that far.

On wireless G I easily get a 10MB/s (1220KBps) internet file download speed (I am on a corporate connection) from a good server such as Google that does not throttle bandwidth.

G-MIMO is also a good alternitive to standird G. Provides with wider signal, and faster LAN speeds.

I see what you mean now... BB= broadband and it comes with a wireless router

Typically they will provide the router which I am sure is G and you must provide the wireless NIC

The wireless router should also have a wired port so you should be able to use it either way.

I don't know what deals you have available to you, but in my humble opinion, it's better to buy a quality router first, whether it has wireless, VOIP or whatever.

That way, you can choose an internet broadband plan purely on it's merits and price without the complication of a "bundled" plan and associated contracts which always seem associated with a plan that includes hardware.

Not only that, but you can get stcuk with an undesirable router or ISP if you are contracted in that way.

What's VOIP ?

A VOIP router allows you to use your normal phone as an internet phone, they usually have 2 or 3 phone ports and simultaneous calls can be made.

The new Windows Live Messenger lets you do the same thing without a VOIP router for 1.9 cents a minute (in the USA) through Verizon. You can make calls from your computer to any hard line or mobile phone in the world, you just cant receive them.

The VOIP feature is for a real phone (both ways) for use with a service like Vontage or other internet phone company. The only downfall to that is when the power goes out you loose your phone unless it is on a battery backup and the phone service (such as Comcast) also provides a battery backup at their facility.

Many good VOIP routers have a PSTN fallback feature, where it just switches to your normal telephone line if there is a problem with your broadband. You still have to pay your line rental to get your broadband, so you choose the cheapest phone normal plan and then make all your calls on the netphone, if your ISP goes down, you pay normal rates for your normal phone plan.

You don't need the PSTN fallback feature either, I have it but don't use it, I just have a normal phone on an extension line.

You can change the currency in one of the settings, I actually got put onto this site by a Brit, he's been using Internet calls for over two years I think.

All you do is pay 10 euros every 4 months (last time I checked) and you get 300 minutes of free call time per week to most landlines worldwide, I think the company is based in Germany.

Many people use 2 such plans, I use one from my ISP and I'm about to sign up with internet calls. My ISP charged a $20 join fee and all my landline calls are 18c nationwide, untimed, and my mobile and international call rates are great. My phone bill used to average $120/month, now it's $110 including my broadband plan which is $60/month. I should be able to shave another $25-30 off that with Internet Calls.

I got a bit creative and modified my existing house phone wiring to provide both internet calls through the router and normal phone sevices in two rooms.
