Asrock ConRoeXFire-eSATA2

This is the cheapest Conroe board I can find here.

Oddly it's absolutely packed with features. I would seriously consider it, but it is a 945 chipset and only supports DDR2 667mhz.

It even has a gameport riser! As ROCK!

I had a look at the BIOS in the manual, it has fairly decent O/C options, well, considering what it is and the price can't be beat for a Crossfire Conroe board.

The only thing that turnes me off to that board is Crossfire. It hasn't preformed anywhere where I wanted it to, and I have officially dropped any support I had for it.

I'm just sitting here waiting for Intel to let the rites from ATi go.

Cheers

Geez, Cameron, anyone would think you were the Devil's Advocate the way you go on about the master Intel and ATI like that

I see AMD has bought ( or in the process of buying ) ATI, for $ 4.2 Billion in cash and 57 million AMD common stock ( total value about $5.4 Billion ).  The AMD- ATI 'allience' is worth around $ 16 Billion , against Intel's value just short of $ 100 Billion..
Word is, this will affect any system builder in the near future.

Yes. Intel's Conroe is a much better chip than ANYTHING that AMTi has produced to date. Look at the E6600. Good processer, great price.

@AMTi users, I'm so happy that you all have your great cheaper rigs, so lets go bench, and find out how much my extra $100 actually got me. Oh whats that about 2.5x the preformance of your system? Thats what I thought 8)

Cheers

Ya know...

I love it when someone start yippin and-a-yappin with a bunch of hootin-nanny when their favorite company FINALLY AFTER HOW MANY YEARS? Comes up with a processor instead of a screw-job for a change.

Mind you that

Time will tell as it always does, but Torenzo and 4x4 don't look that promasing. Also AMTi has been rumored to be working on a new GPU interface. So I don't know if I would expect anything processer wise from them for the next couple of years.

The military generally gets the technology first.

That's cool, those guys must have some fun with it.

My cousin is married to a guy who builds sims for the military. But they don't talk about it.

whatever your reading about in future processors is a load of bull... they already have what they are going to release to the public developed and ready to go to the production run facility. The game is wait and see what the market is doing and THEN decide what version of processor they want to release in order to beat the competition and SPOON FEED the market so you keep coming back for upgrades as soon as possible.

THAT is what Conroe is and why it beats AMD. If AMD had not been in plans to buy ATI, I would bet 10 grand Conroe would not have been released until next year. If AMD had not purchased ATI both AMD and Intel would be releasing interm processors that continue the same marketing screw job. You would be seeing Conroe with AMD's counter processor next year.

Nick N and CTJoyce , since I've been coming to this board, you  two have been duking it out over various aspects of technology. I believe the only FINAL answer would be a fistfight, Nick in his AMD shorts and CT in his exceedingly hot (temperature-wise) Intel shorts.  ;D

Settle this debate like men.  ;)

Its all good, Nick and I disagree over some things, but agree over others. We have our spats, but then again every "family" does.

God I remember the time when I was completely anti AMD and nVidia. Look at me now, for awhile thats all I suggested, and now I havea 7900GT.

But when it all comes down to it, I will pimp Intel till the end. I'm a fanboy what can I say.
