:D :D :D :D

NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE

I knew AMD had something cooking....

Talk about optimized... Processor, chipset and GPU with no bottlenecks

Here comes CROSSFIRE

AMD buys Canada's ATI Technologies

SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 24 (UPI) -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc. of California is paying $5.4 billion to buy ATI Technologies Inc., which has headquarters in Markham, Ontario.

AMD, the nemesis of chip industry leader Intel Corp., is buying ATI for its strengths in graphics, chipsets and consumer electronics, the Sunnyvale, Calif., company said Monday.

AMD, which will pay $4.2 billion in cash and 57 million shares of common stock, has a $2.5 billion term loan commitment from Morgan Stanley Senior Funding, Inc. which it will combine with existing cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments balances of some $3 billion.

Layoffs may be coming: AMD said it will cut operating expenses by $75 million for the combined company by the end of next year.

Its not the card alone that will make the difference... its the combination of AMD processor with multiplexed engineering on the ATI/AMD chipsets AND the ATI GPU/card ...

I would not expect that buyout will have allot of effect on the first gen of DX10 cards but I would bet a CHUNK of cash the 2nd gen will bring CrossFire right into Nvidia's back door... If that happens, it means Intel will have to bow to AMD in the gaming market.

Well done AMD,

Well Done

So. Do you think Intel are going to ask nVidia if they would like a change of management?

No way...

I'll bet the bank ATI and AMD had this cooked up for a while... That is why ATI did not need to push Crossfire that hard and AMD did not produce a processor for Conroe competition. They did not need to because they were BOTH preparing for the release of DX10. If this plays out like I think it will, ATI wil be breathing down Nvidia's neck and AMD will be laughing @ Intel all the way to the bank.

Intel will be forced to either play ball or go kiss Nvidia's ass. Intel does not kiss anyones ass and AMD knows it.

LOL

Well this gives some good credit to Nick, awhile ago he mentioned somewhere here that AMD would have something big up thier sleeve to bust the Conroe hype.
I'll be damned again he was correct! Good call Nick and I too think I will contact the broker ;)

ATi and AMD fanboys how f***ed you are. YAY! AMD AND ATi JOIN FORCES!!!! But goodbye to SLi for you. Oh and have we also thought that mabe Intel and nVidia are in talks ? We are going to see how this plays out, but I had a long conversation with a lot of my friends last night and we figured that AMD and ATi knew they wouldn't stay alive alone, so they joined forces to try and stay aflote.

Cheers
Cameron

PS: oh almost forgot, I was so outraged at the thought of owning a AMD part, that my eVGA 7900GT will be here on thursday.

Truth be known, I knew about the ATI-AMD negotiations in March. I did not know any details or if the acquisition would take place. In April-May the financial world started to buzz and most analysts said if it was going to happen, it would be a bad move for AMD. In checking into the portfolios for the companies those analysts come from you would find heavy Intel and Nvidia investment (go figure)

A few weeks ago I checked up on the RHT rumors and in the course of that conversation was told to get ready for a big announcement. At that point I knew what was about to take place.

So that
