Of the current ATi X Series cards,
which would be closest to my soon to be defunct 9800 Pro?

Any of the X800 series would qualify. The pro and XT versions will give a decent performance boost, especially in higher resolutions and higher aa/af filtering.

I am extremely pleased with the X850XT. It trounces my old 9800pro.

My old ATI Radeon 9800 Pro cooked when it's fan froze. The replacement recommended (sensed some bias of course) was the Radeon X1600 Pro. Am satisfied with it except that make sure that you have the latest and correct Microsoft.NET formware and the latest and correct Catalyst Control Center. The installation CD which came along with the package was almost useless in that the software freezes up (loading or canceling) of the Parental Decoder (which I need like another hole in the head).

Not many high end AGP video cards left out there. Most are PCIE which I don't have in my motherboard.

The 7800GS is worth a look. However many companys have decided to stop making AGP cards. They just can't match the speed of PCI-E.

That's the first chart I've seen that omits half the cards by not listing any nVidia products. Interesting guide.  :)

The 9800pro is around the same performance of the X700. I recommend the X850XT, I have a X850XT PE and it rocks! Tears through fs9.

One of the videos for Flightsimulator X was even on a 512mb X850XTPE :)
