ATI vs. Nvidia

Postby lintonam » Wed Jun 14, 2006 2:52 pm

Which would be better for a vid card? And whats a good card to use in the following system for under $200.

Pentium D 805 Dual Core

ECS C19-ASI Nvidia nForce 4 SLI XE  ATX ( May have to change if using ATI)

1 Gig of Corsair PC3500 DDR2 SDRAM (Board will support up to 16GB?)

Hitachi Deskstar 160GB 7200 RPM SATA HD

Thanks,

nVidia 6800XT would be a excellent card for that system. Will run you about $180.

If I were you, I would go for a 7600GT. Newegg sells them for around $170, and they outpeform the 6800XT's by a longshot.

And I do think you mean PC2-5300, not PC2-3500?;D ;)

they both make very nice graphics cards with very nice drivers (which they both refuse to make open source, grrr).  ATI's cards are nice and red and nvidias a a tastefull pine green.  The performance differance between there competing product lines are usualy small. Rearly there's no reason to get all fan boyish over there graphics cards... if you do I will bust out my voodoo2 accelerator then you'll be sorry!  ::)

Shiny RED ati card:

Shiney Nvidia card

Voodoo 2 with SLI ribbon cable (before Nvidia used the phrase sli as a marketing gimick)

actualy on reflection Nvidia sucks for the one reason they replaced the once meaningfull acronim scan line interweve with scalable link interface! burn!
