Boot Problems

Postby Jimbo » Thu Jun 08, 2006 9:57 am

Here we are, just as i expected, i have problems now that my computer is FULLY assembled.

Due to my luck and everything else, i was right, i am facing problems.

I knew i shouldn't have built my own computer.

Anyway straight to the problem.

The computer swicthes on fine, DVD drive kicks in, and so does the hard drive. The green LED on the motherboard is active so everything appears fine. Also the graphics card is plugged in and the fan is working.

So whats wrong? >>>> I turn the computer on, and NOTHING comes on the screen, NOTHING.

Everything seems fine, but nowt comes on the bloody screen.

Any help at all?

Cheers

A heavily P*ssed off James >:(

Is there a small beep when everything comes alive? Thats usually the indacater that everything is working. And your sure that everything is connected? If you have a optical mouse, see if it lights up when you turn on the computer. If not, it means that the board is DOA.

Ive gone over everything, tightended to see if everything is connected, and everything seems to be fine.

The only indication that i thought the M/B was working was because of the LED, and the Drives kicking into action.

And there is NO beeps/bleeps whatsoever.

Is there any other tests i can do so that i can rule out and see if it is the motherboard?

Cheers.

Ive issued an RMA request for the meantime.

So on the off chance i get it sorted out by advice from here, i can cancel the RMA request.

Try resetting the cmos, that can often fix it.  It will be a jumper on the motherboard.  Read the manual.

When i do it on my comp it does not even start.  I press the button it does nothing, then i put the jumper back then start the comp up.

Yes i read something regarding setting the CMOS. I'll have a look through the manual to see if i can see anything,

Cheers Mate

I just hope i can get this sorted out.

PS: Cant find anything in my Asus Manual which tells me how to re-set the CMOS. Any tips/guides available on the internet. Once again, cheers Guys, really help me out here. 8)

Look on the motherboard.  There will be a jumper with rst_cmos, clr_cmos or something like that next to it.  The jumper should be in the normal position.  Move it to the reset position, by pulling it out and putting it back on in the new position.  Start the comp.  Assuming the comp does not power up, put the jumper back and start it up like usual.

I found a link to a helpful image.

It is for removing the password, but it works the same way.

You could also remove the battery and replace it 10 mins or so later.  I recommend the jumper though.

To reset my COMS I just take a flat tipped screw driver with a rubber handle, set it ontop of the two prongs, and boot up. That works fine for me.

Does the 7900GTX have a seperate power supply requirement?  If it does check that the relevant power cable is attached.

Yes the 7900GTX does need to be plugged in, and the Hiper comes with two of the needed cordes.

Tried the CMOS and Removed and re-entered the Battery, no luck  :'(

Heres the situation i have in more detail.

I have assembled all of my parts, i turn on the computer and nothing happens on screen (i have a samsung with flicks on and off when no computer is active) and it keeps doing this. So i havent actually "seen" my computer working. Anyway i have my RMA sorted out, and im going to re-package and send off tomorow.

Any last final tips or help.... PLEASE! :-[ :'(

Thanks all.

Jimbo.

Ive waited months and months for this computer, and it does this on me, typical.

Update: Cheers Delta for helping me out via MSN, really appreciate it. Looks like we have determined that the source problem is the Motherboard. Will send off tomorow for a replacement. Cheers Mate, and everyone else
