Mouse...

Okay...so here's the catch...I have an HP computer (Yes, I know it's an OEM...but this is not what this topic is about)...I got a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse also by HP supplied with my PC...What sucks is that the mouses literally eats the batteries....I inserted batteries into my keyboard last year...and only this year...they died out...with my mouse...it's a whole different story...they die out in about 2-3 weeks MAX...it's really annoying to keep asking for new batteries. I do have a USB mouse lying around...but it came with a software install thing...and I lost the disk...can I still use that mouse? It's got a wire...but I'm not fussing... :-/
Anyone have any pointers (no pun intended)
Cheers,
Ashar :-/

Im not entirely sure, but have you tried just using the Windows hardware installer? I had this problem a while back, and I just used that and now its fine!

Just plug it in, XP will install it. If it has some fancy functions (for any extra buttons) then you need the software that came with it to use them. However if you don't care about the extra functions (if it has any) then XP will work just fine.

I would imagine a simple little corded mouse is plug and play.
If you really like wireless (personally I demand it) I have yet to be let down by Microsoft.

Lol, then your not looking at it. Logitech has by far the best mice around, period. If you want one of those, look at a MX700
Anyway, the other mouse should just be plug and play.

Some wireless mice will eat the same amount of batteries even when not in use so you may just want to take them out when not in use, yes major hassle.
I have a usb gaming mouse that has a install disc but works fine without the software, as mentioned above if you have programible buttons they may not work without the software.
You could also search thier website you may be able to download the software there.

But everything made by Logitech is god awful tacky and ugly. If they would just change their aesthitics, I'd probably buy them in a heart beat. I think their products are made for people who like case windows.

Logitech make good cordless mice:
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/produ ... 133,ad=hmfI have had an MS mouse for years and although it dosen't have the acuracy of the diamondback it's very very durable and fits my hand well:
http://www.ebuyer.co.uk/UK/product/1061 ... 9024812032As for your mouse you already have it should just work when you plug it in.

No extra button...just a wheel and 2 normal buttons...

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this before...
if you do end up needing special software for the usb mouse to work successfully, how about trying to pop inot the manufacturers web-site and downloading the drivers from them?

I've got a Logitech MX310.. 6 buttons and it's a wonderful first-person shooter mouse (the buttons on the side are ideal for strafing). XP recognizes all the functions, no software needed.
