Two PCs and one monitor.

     Hey Guys and Ladies,

It's good to be back on the forums,  My PC and a few programs were giving me problems.  Of course, - - -  I'm really the problem  ;D

I got myself a Phillips 19" LCD  monitor and soon will have my NEW PC assembled.   I'm keeping my old PC for "on-line" work.

Is it possible to use this one monitor for both PCs  ???       Not at the same time.     However the write-up said I could use it with four divisions  - - -  with four different  programs  at  the  same  time.

I would appreciate your input on this.

     Have a nice day,          caveman

Yes,

Get yourself a KVM switch.  This will enable you to control both PCs with a single Keyboard Screen (Video) and Mouse -hence KVM

Just Google KVM switch and you'll find loads of suppliers

Alternatively if the monitor has multiple inputs of its own the you can just cycle through the inputs. You will need separate Keyboard and mice for this setup.

Hi Jim,   Here's wishing you a nice day.

I'm so new at learning things about PCs that I suspected there was such a switch .  Just didn't know.

Sure do appreciate your input on this. Thanks much.   caveman

If your just starting and stopping downloads on the other pc (and have a network) you can use VNC to remotly controll the other pc:

Hi Kipman,     Always good to have a deeper input.    Right now your suggestions are way over my head.    Perhaps some day ;D     I've a long way to go to just catch up to  "you guys" basics.

    Appreciate your input,

Fly2e,   Sorry I'm a Little late in responding,    I'm re-doing my entire PC area and had to  unhook things to  "form-fit"  everything.

That's very nice of you to give me an address to go to for that KVM switch.   [  I would have been all over the place looking - - -   ;D   ].

Here's wishing you a nice day - - -  and sure do thank you.

Hey Guys,    It don't take me long to get turned around.   I just went to the site for the KVM switches.   They have switches in all price ranges    - - - from $45.00  to  Waaaaaaaaay  up there.   ;D

I just don't even know what I'm looking at .  Would some of you guys help me in deciding what switch to get ?

I will have two PCs  w/usb ports,  one keyboard, one mouse, and one printer.      The printer probably wont be used for but one PC.    Only one PC would be used  at a time.

I don't know of any other  info needed.  Thanks much,

Something like this will be more than adequate:

http://www.compusa.com/products/product ... pfp=SEARCH

If you don't need to share the audio you can go for a simpler version.  You can even go down the PS2 route if you've got PS2 keyboard and mouse which will be even cheaper
